Spaced Repetition for Medical School
Spaced repetition is most useful when it supports the course rather than becoming the course. Prioritize examinable concepts, keep prompts concise, and protect time for clinical reasoning and practice questions.
Choose what deserves a card
Prioritize facts and discriminating features you genuinely need to retrieve. Not every sentence from a lecture needs a flashcard.
Keep the queue honest
Due and overdue cards should remain visible so missed review is not silently forgotten.
Combine recall formats
Use flashcards for retrieval and quizzes or cases for application and discrimination between similar diagnoses.
